Shared Folders - limit folder size

mr.sweetchuck
Hi,
Is it possible to limit the size of a folder within a shared folder on a Windows Server 2003 Server? Currently there is a shared folder called 'Shared' and within that, there is a folder for each employee within the company, (e.g. Shared:\emp1, Shared:\emp2, etc.) I want to set a maximum folder size for each of these folders, (ideally, I would like to set different limits on these folders.)

Is it possible to do this, (I know that you can set a maximum for the 'Shared' folder, but what about the folders nested inside?

    Hi there,

You need a tool called FSRM (File Server Resource Manager). This Microsoft tool will allow you to set folder size quotas amongst other file server related controls, and has options for alerting and reporting too.

I believe that FSRM was introduced with Server 2003 SP2, but not installed by default. To install it, use Add/Remove Windows Components from Control Panel. You should find FSRM within the Management & Monitoring Tool subsection.

    Hope this helps,

    Andz.

You can enable disk quotas per user profile.
Select the volume and right-click on it.
Select the Quota tab and select Enable Quota Management. In Quota Entries, you can select the Quota Size per user profile.
