When you install Chrome Browser it doesn't delete any of the existing Browsers or other aspects of Windows. At the worst it may set itself as the Default Browser which is easily changed to whatever it is you prefer to use.

System Restore Points also are not deleted so if you had System Restore active before this point the Restore Points would still be there if you have just of installed Chrome.

It sounds like a Infection of Some Kind so I would suggest scanning your system in Safe Mode after you update whatever AV Product you have installed. Even then there are no guarantees that you will have a clean system as some infections disable the AV Product and Kill any Restore Points that where there before the unit became infected.

You really need to scan the system without the OS running so you can clean it up and to do that you need a Boot Disc like FSecure or any of the others that are available.

To this end I suggest you read this TR Blog on Rescue Boot Disc's but you need to understand that you'll have to make the Disc on a different system that isn't infected.

remember to remove the space from between the techrepublic and the .com for a working link.

Any of the listed Rescue Disc's will do the necessary job and it's down to what you prefer.
