two problems: automatic updates and security center

A. Automatic updates

Im not genuine [with windows] and i've finally found a patched ie7 to stop the nag, which says it downloaded ie7 and it wants me to install it. i did the same thing with wmp11 but this didnt happen.
i plan to just find the folder where the downloaded ie7 update is and delete it to maybe stop the nag, but i don't know where it is.
but, i'd still want to have an opinion, and an answer as to how i can stop that nag.

B. Security center

Ever since i had this notebook back in december, it always displayed upon startup a security alert, saying that my antivirus (symantec antivirus corporate edition) isnt running, or something to that effect. usually, it just goes away after a few minutes. but this time, even my firewall (zone alarm) isnt detected too, so it gave this nag icon on the tray. i switched to "i'll monitor it myself" to take it off, but likewise id want to know how to stop it properly and maybe fix it too.

so, why doesnt windows detect my antivirus and my firewall?

the only thing that happened between then and now that was quite different was that my notebook accidentally shut down because someone accidentally pulled the plug on the charger.

help please!

On the toshiba and the sony vaio, you have to download a
patch to get some programs to work. I would suggest you
check your laptops website to check for updated drivers
first. You could do a restore to a earlier point first.
Then if that doesn't work, I would backup all my data, do
a format and complete restore with your cd that you have.
And then reinstall your data that you have. That should
fix it. Make sure you do all your updates. I am not a big
fan of Symantec or zone alarm, but alot of people swear
by them. If the laptop is a few years old, I put spyware
defender on it, and probably antvir. Those run pretty
good, without a big footprint, or freezing your computer
    up while your working.
