USB-Drive Boot on a Vaio

xpixelx
Hi, I have a usb drive with a bootable linux distro installed. However, my laptop (Sony Vaio FS875P) does not have a bios option for booting from usb. I've been searching google for hours and I can't find anything. As I know, there is no bios update available. Any help or a point in the right direction would be awesome. Thank you.

on the manufacturer's web site, which took me all of 5 minutes to locate, the Sony Vaio FS875P has the following:

    Processor: Intel? Centrino? Mobile Technology
    Intel? Pentium? M Processor 760 (2GHz ,
    2MB L2 Cache)
    Front Side Bus Speed: 533MHz
    Chipset: Intel? 915PM

If you have an owner's manual, it may actually list what motherboard is in the computer, or at least tell you what version of the BIOS it came with. Knowing that would help to locate any BIOS updates that may be available.

Not knowing exactly what motherboard they put in the Vaio though, it's impossible to tell for sure if updates can be located. However, most newer motherboards will allow booting from USB devices. You'll find that option in the BOOT area of the BIOS. It may be listed as "other removable media" or some other similar wording and not specifically say that it will boot to USB.
