On what OS you are attempting to open this under. If it's a MAC OS you'll most likely need to format the drive so that the Mac can read the drive.

If you bought the thumb drive from an Apple Supplier and are trying to use it on a Windows PC then you'll have to open the Drive Management and format the drive as Windows is not capable of reading Mac Partition Types.

If you bought the Thumb Drive from a Windows Supplier for a Windows system and it has a Drive Lock switch and that is switched to Off or Can Not Write then what you are experiencing is to be expected, you'll need to reset the switch to write for it to be usable.

The only thing I'd add is to look at the OS you're using and check the permissions of the account you're using to ensure you have the system permission to format a drive, and specifically that drive letter.
