USB Root Hub drivers missing

coolhand99
Upgraded to XP SP2 and now no USB ports respond (all other functions seem to work). Troubleshooting results: Go to Device Manager, USB controllers, USB Root Hub. Right click to properties and receive the message "driver not installed". Give permission to install driver, receive message "driver can not be found"

So, where are "USB Root Hub" drivers located and what is the correct way to install and what are the precautions to get them installed correctly and not killsom
ething else.

Thanks!!

Would be a good place to start. When you 'give permission' for the installation to proceed the system will be looking for a 'drivers disc' which you should have, along with your original XP disc.

Otherwise I would try the Microsoft site for usb drivers.

When you apply SP2 to XP you give XP the ability to read USB 2 ports and work as USB 2 instead of the USB 1 that where available previously.

If this is an off the shelf system go to the Makers Web Site and look for some USB Drivers or if it's a White Box you'll need to look for the drivers at the M'Board Makers Web Site and you'll need the model of the M'Board as well.

What has happened here is that the M'Board supports USB 2 Ports and when you applied SP2 it removed the older slower USB Drivers that you had installed so that you could take full advantage of the faster USB 2 Ports that you have available.

I had this same USB root hub drivers problem about a month ago. When checking under 'Device Manager', the usb root hub has yellow exclamation marks and upon checking properties it says "driver may be corrupted or missing code 39"

I already tried to update drivers but wasn't able to find any. What I did is uninstall all entries with yellow exclamation mark, then restarted the PC. That did it.
