vbs or .bat

I would like to start learning how to create scripts. I have been in the IT field for 3 years and i can create a basic script to copy a file or run a basic pogram. I would like to create more complex scripts. My question is should i learn to to create batch files of vbs scripts? Which is easier? I would like to create a script to run a program as an admin, but i don't want to copy and paste a script and fill in the blanks.

It is much more powerful and flexible. There are tons of books out there and sites. They are a search engine result away...

"but i don't want to copy and paste a script and fill in the blanks"

Don't waste time re-inventing the wheel. Copy, paste and fill-in when it's appropriate.

Then use your talent to come up with new solutions for other scripts. Share it, and others will copy-and-paste you.

    OSS/GPL. What a concept!

I feel that if i just copy and paste i won't have any understanding on whats going on. what happens if i need to create a script ASAP? looking for the perfect script by google may take awhile.

Check Script Center @ Microsoft TechNet website:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/scriptcenter/default.aspx

Its the best place to start leaning about scripting.

Well, I would learn both as they are both useful for different things. If you are going to choose only one, though, I recommend vbs because it can offer more utility down the road. A good source for learning it would be W3Schools (http://www.w3schools.com/). There is a listing in the left hand pane of the languages they have tutorials on. With vbs I would also strongly recommend learning how to encode vbs files so that they are not easily modified or viewed. This allows you to create, for example, a script that will run an installer as a local or domain admin without exposing the admin passwords (quick, easy way to install apps on computers with reduced privileges).

I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you have further questions.
