W7, why loosing Local Area Connection?

dorierez
Windows 7, cable LAN Network 4 connected directly into desktop.
Sometimes upon booting, sometimes after long pause or "sleep mode", I loose the Local Area Connection. I used to have a wireless connection but removed the card and it still does it. Any ideas?
Almost novice.

That would be my starting point but I would also kill the Sleep/Hibernation Option as this is a Known Issue with all Windows OS's.

Go into the adapter settings and uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". It's on by default in W7.

Thank you all volunteers for the answers. What do you do when you leave the computer for an hour or more? I also don't like to stay online more than I need to but I'm not supposed to switch off the modem. Is there an alternative? I used to use Zonealarm and they have an option to stop traffic. I have not found this anywhere else.

Its easy to unplug the LAN cable, either that or setup a shortcut to your local area network connection and rt. click and choose disable. This incidentally may also be done from your system tray depending on the Operating System you use. I would find either of these solutions far less painful than that endured in using Zone ALarm.

The only thing I do is turn off the monitor when I'm away.

Though I do use a Gateway Device that is well configured between the internal LAN and the ISP's supplied Modem.

I have yet to experience any serious infection that was not related to the Wife's Son's Games which spread across the Window side of the LAN.
