Why do I keep getting w3wp.exe errors? IIS/WSUS related problem

DownRightTired
Ok heres the situation I have a small website running in IIS6. Ive also installed PHP and MYSQL to support joomla (a content delivery service) on the site. Everything was running fine with this set up.
THen I installed WSUS on the same server (on pt:8530). I got it up and running but was never able to get any hosts to connect to it through GP. After I installed wsus was when i began getting these 2 errors every 3 hours or so:

Application Error : 1000
Message: Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.3959, faulting module w3core.dll...

W3SVC : 1009
Message: A process serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' terminated unexpectedly.

Im assuming theres some kind of misconfiguration caused by WSUS, but I dont know much about IIS and all that. Anybody have any ideas about this? Im worried if I un/reinstall IIS ill have problems getting joomla set back up.

**EDIT**
forgot to mention that I uninstalled WSUS from the server and still am getting the messages. Once I set WSUS up on another server with the default pt 80 I had no problems w/ it.

    Hi DownrightTired,
i have inclosed some info, i hope you get all sorted with this.(More on Microsoft web site, under (wsus))

    Instructions
Before installing WSUS 3.0, see the Release Notes for WSUS 3.0 available from the related resources area on this page. If you are installing WSUS 3.0 on Small Business Server 2003 R2, see the SBS white paper available from the related resources on this page.

Important configuration issue: You must overwrite the proxy server password in the configuration wizard

If you are using a proxy server that requires username/password authentication, the WSUS server may fail to synchronize updates if you do not overwrite the proxy server password when running the WSUS Server Configuration Wizard. Since the configuration wizard is launched automatically at the end of setup, this problem can cause synchronization errors after you upgrade from an older version of WSUS to WSUS 3.0.

You can avoid this problem by cancelling the Configuration Wizard after upgrade, or by reentering the correct proxy password when the wizard runs. To recover from this problem once it has occurred, go to ?Options/Update Source and Proxy Server?, reenter the proxy password, and save the setting.

    Additional Information
The shortcut to launch WSUS 3.0 Administration Console can be found in the Administrative Tools folder. For Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista, the Administrative Tools folder can be found in the Control Panel.

Sorry, dont know if my question was vague. Im not having an issue installing wsus. The problem is that I installed it on a server already running a web site. I started getting errors regarding the w3wp.exe service. See my original post for more information about it...

i never independantly installed this hotfix, and its not in add remove programs(updates is checked). The files listed in the KB are present though. Is there a process to uninstall this or am i supposed to just delete them?

**Didnt mention in the original post but when i log on in the morning, theres several diaolog boxes (one for each error instance in log) stating the IIS Worker process encountered and error and closed. Dunno if that helps any.

Well its been 5 hours and I havnt gotten one of those errors. Had to come in late last night when I found out out webmail was down. We use merak mail server. I dont know for sure that this is where the problem was, the webmail doesnt run off of IIS but I suppose it uses the w3wp service, i wonder about the IIS Worker error though? Maybe that was ISS..

Anyway the webmail mysteriously disappeared and I couldnt get the service to start up. All the other mail services where running but no webmail. Had to backup settings, un/re-install, restore settings. Everything SEEMS peachy for now.

Hey I have the exact same error message. The common problem that we both share is that we installed MYsql and also PHP. Im running PHP on my Server. Since IIS interacts with PHP i think that it may be an issue with PHP and IIS6. Ill let you know if I find anything else.
