Here is the event Info. I'm just trying to figure out why this was started and shortly there after another event shows it as running when I don't even have shadow copy enabled.

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7035
Date: 8/30/2007
Time: 11:31:18 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: XXXX
Description:
The Volume Shadow Copy service was successfully sent a start control.

Have same problem here on a Dell PowerEdge 2850 Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise SP1.

At times, all shares are not available for approx. 30 to 45 seconds.

No events in event logs (sys or apps).

    Thanks,

If you use NTBackup, that will restart the service, or also if Sys Restore is used, among possibilities.

For Win2k3, you'll need to use the Security Configuration Wizard to disable the VSS.
