Why does virtual memory in Windows 7 reset its self after i set it up? I set custom virtual memory to set my own size using several hard drives and it works for a day or so and all a sudden i get a low virtual memory message and find that its reset its self back to default

7 would seem, then, to have an automatic override to manage virtual memory even if you set it to a static size.

Other than that, you may not be:
    -filling both fields
-clicking "set" and "OK" all the way out of the dialog boxes
in which case you never set a static swap file size in the first place.

That at some point in time the Partition/Drive/Device that you have set the Virtual Memory to becomes unavailable for the OS to use and it returns to it's defaults.
