+ 0 Votes AC adapter connection mjd420nova Updated - 2 years ago The connector in the laptop itself has a switch that is mechanical and switches the AC power from battery to AC when the connector is inserted. If that switch gets jammed or bent, it will run on AC power but won't sense the jack or charge the battery. This is a pretty common problem for laptops that get moved or transported while the adapter jack is in place. Traces on the PC board will get lifted or seperated. The only cure is to replace and repair the traces. One sure cure would be to use short wires from the PC board to a connector outside the case, forstalling any more jammed connectors.
