Here so we know what you are seeing.

If you are accepting the M$ End User Licenser Agreement by pressing the F8 Key and the computer is going to the Blue Screen of Death what is it telling you? If it is saying that there is no HDD Present that could be because you have a SATA HDD which isn't supported by XP Natively. To load the SATA Driver you need to press the F6 Key at the first Blue Screen when the Windows Installer is Loading and select the option to install SCSI Drivers.

But as the OP here is suggesting a problem I didn't think that there was a normal XP Setup screen involved here.

But with the high detail of the question it's not really possible to say much beyond a BSOD event happening. After all what other type of Blue Screen would show a problem in XP setup?

Make sure that you have installed the operating system fully, once up and running then install SP2 (unless it comes with). If you are finding that you need to go into "safe mode" (F8), and your screen is showing a blue screen of death (BSOD) then just click on your shutdown button in windows (this might take a few minutes) and make a cup of tea and wait for it (your computer) to shutdown. Wait (when shutdown) 15 minutes then press the startup button on your computer case (usually the big button).
When you see the "bios" (white text) on your screen press the "F8" button to go into "safemode". Hope this helps you.

Please post back if you have anymore problems or questions.
