Windows can't detect PS2 to USB mouse

stak
I have a PS2 mouse which I'm connecting to my computer using a PS2 to USB adapter. However Windows can't seem to detect the PS2 mouse and the error message "USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED" keeps popping up. Is there any driver that I should install to enable windows to detect my mouse?

The PS/2 to USB adapter does not allow every PS/2 device to function when connected to a USB port. All that most of these adapters do is make the correct connections to the device so that it can connect to a USB port.

The fact of the "device not recognized" error suggests that your mouse does not have the internal firm-ware to function as a USB device.

You can check with the mouse manufacture to verify if your specific model has USB support.

Generally speaking, if the mouse did not come with a USB to PS/2 adapter, the mouse does not support a USB connection.
