Windows vista and Microsoft Office 2000

teoc85
I have Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002 installed on my computer.

I successfully installed Microsoft Office 2000 Premium.

Do I have to install Service Packs for Office 2000? How do I do this?

.Martin.

to do that, you want to go to http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate and search for updates

Security updates and service packs are always a good idea. If your computer is set up to make use of Windows Update, you will automatically receive notification. Alternatively, searching on Microsoft's site will allow you to download an executable file for off-line installation.

Office 2000 updates were never supported on Windows Update and Microsoft Update sites. And as it is out of support from Microsoft you can browse the following URL to get the downloads:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/276367
But be sure to install the Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1a (SR-1a) before installing the Office 2000 SP3 which is a necessity as per Microsoft.

It's been a few years since I have used Office 2000, so if I gave incorrect information, I apologise.
However, the link you provided clearly states "How to obtain the latest Office 2000 service pack from Microsoft Update or Office Update" and then provides a link to the update site.

ay.okane: I have no complaints about any of the responses. Thanks for your response.

As you can see from my last entry (error logfile) I am stuck.

All the office apps seem to be working just fine.I think my Vista Home Premium

Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002 installed on my computer may be taking
care of possible security vulnerabilities of office app. Since office 2000 is no
longer supported, I am probably stuck. If you know of any other places I might look,
I would appreciate the info.Thanks.

Thanks to jay.okane, .Martin, and MehulBhai.

Re: Microsoft recommends that Office 2000 users update to Office 2000 SR-1a for
optimal benefits. If you are interested in obtaining the latest Office 2000 updates,
security updates, and updated system-level components, you should update to Office
2000 SR-1a.

When I try to install Office 2000 SR-1 Core update I get an error message.

"Microsoft Office 2000SR-1 update did not complete successfully. For assistance contact Microsoft technical assistance. See logfile Office 2000SR-1 Setup(0005).txt. "
Of course I cannot install SP-3 until I install SR-1a.

Re: My computer is set up to make use of Windows Update but Windows Update says that Windows is up to date and no new updates are available.

All my office programs seem to be working well. Am I being protected through Vista
for the problems that that the service packs 1-3 addressed? I have Microsoft Windows
Vista Home Premium Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002 installed on my computer.

No update has been done on the office programs. For instance, My Microsoft Word shows version 9.0.2720 installed. No update has been done.

I think I had installed Word viewer before I installed Office. It now seems to have
disappeared. (Unnecessary as Word is now installed??)

Any suggestions as to what my next step should be?

I clearly mentioned in my reply post that Office 2000 update was never supported in either Windows Update or Microsoft Update.
Regarding the error while installing Office 2000 SR-1a, I would like to ask is the Office 2000 installation CD is in the CD drive or the original installation media is in place from where the Office 2000 was installed. Office 2000 CD or the installation media is required to be in place for all the Office updates to take place otherwise the update will not take place.
CHECK This First. Also check the Log file.
AND let us know the result.

I tried both installing directly from net (disabling virus protection) and
downloading to computer with Installation CD in the drive for both update attempts. Same
error message.

The error logfile reads:
Error: The file, C:\Users\teoc\AppData\Local\Temp\sr1patch\{0DC0F122-1B1C-11D4-AED6-
00C04F022C53}, has an invalid size.

Error: The Office 2000 SR-1 Core Update patch is missing or invalid.

Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 setup ended prematurely because of an error.

By the way, would you recommend any shareware or freeware program that is more
efficient than windows at finding files?

I have found the solution!!!

The error logfile reads:
Error: The file, C:\Users\teoc\AppData\Local\Temp\sr1patch\{0DC0F122-1B1C-11D4-AED6-
00C04F022C53}, has an invalid size.

Error: The file, C:\Users\teoc\AppData\Local\Temp\sr1patch\{0DC0F122-1B1C-11D4-AED6-00C04F022C53}, has an invalid size.

Google the error message I got. It will take you to
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.officeupdate/browse_thread/thread/dd4

There:(Microsoft.public.officeupdate

Duxdad: The solution is to find the administrators download version which contains all the files to do the SP1a update. The file is "O2KSR1aDL.exe".

Rich Sparks: "For anyone else looking, one site that still provides O2KSR1aDL.exe is:
http://www.filewatcher.com/m/O2KSR1aDL.EXE.53816504.0.0.html
... the first link is English. "

After installing this-- the administrator's download version, then one can update to Office SR-3.

SR-3 Microsoft download center

THIS WORKS!!! You do of course, need the Office disk.
