Windows won't shut down

HoosYrBaby
I just installed a new motherboard, harddrive, etc. Now when I try to close my PC down, it just starts up again. What am I doing wrong?

It might just be showing 'Restart'.

If it is, scroll it to the 'Shutdown' option.
    That should cure the problem.

I wanted to check this reply but I don't know how to find the Shutdown option. Any help would be appreciated. HoosYrBaby

...and then it will hang on the blue screen error instead of rebooting. then post all the error numbers and the source and description and we can look it up for you or you can google it.
this is almost always hardware related: incompatible, wrong drivers, failed hardware. However it can also be incompatible programs. we need the exact error message to begin.
To turn off automatic restart, right-click My Computer, pick Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery find the place to uncheck the box that restarts on system error.
I love the UP. I miss it.

Erm... (be polite Mycroft!) ...er... och sodditt!

Just how in the **** did you arrive at an auto restart after a system error?

Surely you must have spotted the line "when I try to close my PC down" - that was a real giveaway!

I tried what you told me-however it only says "It is now safe to turn off your computer" I still have to do it manually. Thanks, HoosYrBaby
