Windows XP Media Centre Edition

Got a new laptop came with XP MCE all running ok, works WIFI on to the Net no problems. It's setup as MSHOME for workgroup, but from the laptop you can only see itself, it has no visibilty of any other PC's in the workgroup this means at the present time I am unable to Print anything. I know that the ability to Join a Domain was removed on this addition, but I would have thought that it would be able to communicate within a workgroup. Anyone come across this?

But you need to run the Network Setup Wizard and enable File & Printer sharing and make sure that the Workgroup name on it is the same as the others on the Network.
You then need to share things on the LAN so that the NB can see them and that they can see the NB so it will need something shared on it as well.

Generally speaking when using a Peer to Peer LAN you need to install the Printer Drivers locally and then tell the computer that the Printer is a Network Printer and browse the Network for the printer to finish installing the drivers.

There is also the matter of the WiFi if that is part of a router it's possible that you have disconnected the WiFi from the Wired LAN and you'll need to play with the settings in order to get the thing to work correctly.

Follow the directions in the Instruction Manual for the WiFi Access Point and you should have everything shared in no time at all.
