Word Perfect hangs when first accessing file on network

Fireboss
I'm mostly out of IT these days but still take care of a small network in a medical transcription firm: Windows server 2003, Windows 2000 workstations, max of 6 users at any one time, wireless cards connect the workstations, router does DHCP, workstations use only Wordperfect 10 and software from Lanier to manage the voice traffic for the typists.
Everything was going fine then we started having a hang when WordPerfect tried to call a template from the server. The hang lasts up to a minute. During that time WP does nothing but the rest of the machine is fine. Event logs show nothing. Once the program starts everything is fine until they callone of their macros from the server. Once again it hangs for up to a minute. What makes it so odd is that if I open the template directory in "my computer" I can double click the template and it opens immediately. Macros also work immediately with this method.
I considered that there might be a DNS issues to I mapped the drive by IP but it made no difference.
Server load is nonexistent, processor hardly breaks sweat with so few users and so little traffic.
I've deleted mappings in WordPerfect and recreated them but it doesn't make any difference.
I even reconnected a wired network card but again no joy.
Help an old fella out please.

    OH Smeg

With a Recently applied Patch from M$ that is the problem here.

It's personally not something that I have run into but my clients use WP12 so it may be related to the older version of WP and a new Patch. Though I'm certainly no expert on things like this.
