That TR is censoring discussions. Prove to me I'm wrong. Or, of course, it proves they still can't get it right. Either way......

(Note: I attempted to start no fewer than three discussions over the past two hours. NONE have shown up; but this one did.)

A provocative political discussion, of course. And yes, one with a URL.

Thanks anyway, but no need to have anyone look into it. If they want to block me (and/or others) from starting provocative political discussions, then so be it; eventually, I'll just quit trying (kinda' like beating one's head against the wall who eventually just stops doing it).

P.S. My song of the day (gee, with a URL):

What I really respect about your music links is that they are never to modern day remakes, you appreciate the roots that almost always reach back to their blues origins, probably from being a Beatles fan.

While Cole was actually a cover of the original (from what I see in the same year as Troup's original), I actually think Cole is the most recognized, though most younger people would think of the Glen Fry version due to the more recent airplay.

They've been doing it from Day One. It's their web site; they take down or leave up what they want. Do you have reasons to expect otherwise?

I suspect you're using a URL or phrase that the spam filter is blocking. It used to give warnings, but now it sends the content into the Ol' Bit Bucket so spammers won't learn which words to avoid.

I ran into this a couple of years ago with the word 'suggestion'. It was blocked because the spam filter was set to look for 'UGG', a brand of boots being heavily pushed at the time.

It could be a similar filter programming issue; try sending your original content directly to a staff member or moderator and see if he or she can identify the troublesome language.

The content they choose to allow to be displayed is up to them. But I have to chuckle when I see suggestions that, perhaps, a URL or phrasing that doesn't make it through their spam blockers is the culprit, but I then see all the real spam (yes, with URLs) getting through.

But this is a tech site. If the tech experts - who are here to offer technical advice to other tech professionals - can't even fix their own damn problems, then it tells me there's probably another reason. I don't think they're that incompetent, quite frankly; I think there's some smart people who run this Web site. And I think they know exactly what they're doing by denying so many Water Cooler discussions to be started. Then again, perhaps I'm giving them more credit than they deserve. I suppose I'll never know which it really is.

It's embarrassing for a tech site, if you ask me. Would you take your automobile to a mechanic who can't even get his own car running right?

By the way, I converted the URL to a TinyURL, and I placed about three spaces in it so it was no longer a real URL. So there was really nothing egregious to block. Besides, if members who've been around for so long can't make it through their spam block, then we're apparently not thought of in very high regards.

If you're bored, you might try posting the first paragraph of your original content, then editing it to add each additional para / sentence / word until you find what the filter doesn't like. It might not be the URL, Tiny or otherwise. I think the problem isn't your message as much as a string of characters within a particular word you may have chosen, characters the filter is set to look for.

Interestingly, I was blocked recently while trying to post a URL to a page on the ZDNet sister site.

      But I'm not that bored.

I do think, however, that replies to a discussion are given more leeway than the original discussion itself. I posted a URL in a reply above, for example, but it would have, most likely, caused the original discussion to be blocked. (Both were YouTube links.)

I've looked through the flags I've gotten the past few days, and I don't see anything you've posted that's been flagged. Typically, if we kill a post, we take into account how long the member has been here, especially if there are links. The vast majority are posted by people who create an account, create one or more posts with questionable links, and then go away. Those are nuked with extreme prejudice. If we're unsure, we discuss it, and typically leave it if it's a long term member unless it's really egregious.

"The content they choose to allow to be displayed is up to them."
Of course based on the power of the views, follower and ad posts/clicks.

With political topics actually topping TR's popularity list and being restricted to a non-indexed, off topic forum, it would only make sense to allow such contents.

P.S. I've always thought of you in very high regards! (damn, spit iced coffee on my screen that time...)

I noticed that but then actually found it, somehow, I don't really remember. Another post had a few words I though may be blocked/auto filtered though. When I changed the copy a bit, it all of a sudden appeared.

So I don't have a real example that I can remember, but I too have found the mystery you have. I just reposted and changed things and it appeared, wouldn't be the first time TR censored me (which they are entitled to, of course) so I didn't bat an eye.

Just like doing a mass site submission to 300 engines, you'll get 30 or 40 that want more info and note submission couldn't be completed.

When not for a specifically targeted site, nobody cares about hippos happy house not indexing your site, it's not worth the 5 minutes to refocus on it and similar that deny instant submissions.

I don't think, in my personal opinion/guess, that spammer would give a damn if twenty or thirty sites of the 500 they auto post too rejected their ads. They are focused on the numbers game, like telemarketing, if the person says 'not interested, take me off your list', it is not cost effective to pursue it further. There are many PERSONAL reasons why telemarketers call back or even set such numbers to be auto-dialed every day for three months but, for the most part, it's not cost effective marketing to chase dead ends.

      Again though, just MHO

Once was a day when first thing Friday morning, PST, I'd be looking for the Friday Yuk, Neil always beat me to it or Colin with the time zone changes. Colin even started posting on Thursday to be first in. It would quickly follow with dozens of posts, everyone adding a few jokes for some Friday Yuk's. These days, nada, nobody has a sense of humour anymore?!.

You then got the Friday night music rocking away, it got REALLY popular with some killer posts and rare playlists, jck, yourself, neil and many others put up some brilliant tracks that are often forgotten.

Now it seems you can't even start a discussion properly? Not sure myself, I know that I can't post under my old account any more but this one seems okay for the most part, I have made a few tech posts (no links, no language etc.) that didn't show up and a repost, slightly changed and trimmed down even more, shows up.

Maybe TR needs to sign up for a tech support package with an offshore support team. Maybe one of their kids is technical and can help them with it, I dunno but TR has sure changed over the years, and I wouldn't suggest for the better. Not just because of Yuks and music posts but simply because it isn't as enjoyable within the regular groups anymore, people seem so disassociated these days, compared to what they used to be. Just like the people out in general public that couldn't give a toss about anyone but themselves.

The whole look and feel is just starched and clinical now, nowhere near as inviting as it used to be, not by any means.
