In 1992, after a career of in IBM sales, I joined a MicroAge franchise and learned (a) that there was no margin and no profit in sales per se and (b) the only people who KNEW anything were the technicians in the back office. Accordingly, I dropped sales as a career, achieved a few certs and after 2 years of learning an entirely NEW career, was hired as the System Admin for Aon Consulting, 2 World Trade Center, 101st floor. This magnificent job taught me much about backups and disaster planning for obvious reasons. Aon pioneered true disaster recovery planning. After a few more years with Aon Group as a lan analyst (server and desktop support for 1,700 users), I was - along with 140 other technicians - outsourced OUT of Aon by Computer Sciences Corporation/Banctec in December, 2005. Since 2006 I have been an indepepdent consultant with specialization in server/desktop support, backup management, disaster planning and system restoration. In 2007 I developed a networking association for small business and not for profit support through HSH Associates, Pompton Plains, NJ.
