It appears he emphasizes "first," so more like one of those 'NASA is hiding alien bases on the moon' conspiracy twits.

Many of these posts demonstrate once again that the American psyche is deeply flawed. Why can you not simply either acknowledge the USSR & Gagarin achievement - or just shut up ? Or is that too much to ask ... pathetic.

So although first dog and man and woman to be in space were speaking russian (including the dog), the evil russians have to be "very quickly outclassed". As a proof we have the first men on moon, who were speaking perfect yankee. God bless America!
But the truth seems to be much more complex and interesting. Not delving on the many other space "firsts" by the russians, lets just remind the little fanfared fact that while Americans struggled to score their significant "first" - the human landing on moon, soviets worked on new liquid fuel booster engine design. This new design was 25% more efficient. The immature engine design caused soviets some more spectacular rockets explosions, setting their space program back, letting americans to "win" the moon.
The design was perfected over the time and that's the engine that powers the NASA missions today.
