For decades Microsoft has been the defacto choice for organisations when it comes to operating systems and office software.

But in recent years a growing number of city authorities have started to buck the trend, swapping out Windows and Office for open-source alternatives, such as the Ubuntu OS and the LibreOffice suite.

Here are 10 organisations that chose to wave goodbye to Microsoft, and one which decided to come back.
