When changing cell phones, I removed the sim card and loaded it in the new phone. Albeit, there's " No " data. I put it back in the original cell and still no data. Where did it go? Is there another way to retrieve it ?

OK, To remove the volume button contact shield, IF you haven't damaged/torn the ribbon cable, how would your get to the screw directly under the ribbon cable? (beside desoldering the cable, that is)

My iPod 4th gen. fell on the concrete and the glass screen cracked pretty bad.. How would i go about fixing it and what places are trustworthy sites to buy parts these days??? It's a black ipod but I figured why not make it white while I'm at it. So i guess what I'm asking is, where should I go to get both the white glass for the ipod, a new white home button, and what procedure should I follow when going about the switch?

"Apple clearly DID NOT design the 4th generation iPod Touch to be user-serviceable." Image #35 All I want to be able to do is change the battery without breaking the Touch! The battery in my 1st gen Touch is soldered inside. iPods and phones "break" when batteries die. Happens often, but opening their devices "voids the warranty". My smart phone opens to change the battery and SIM card. Glad it's NOT an Apple.

apple has achieved some degree of customer trust but must concentrate on rebranding

Bill, I honestly can't believe they pay you to do this, lol. I've searched high and low, I see no similar job advertised anywhere. Just kidding, nice work, I enjoy some of these disassemble galleries... too bad this iPod will never work again (at least not without volume control). :) T.

No wifi antenna pics? One of the changes/differences between prior gen and 4gen is the wifi antenna and the elimination of the plastic window seen in 3rd gen.

Try reposting this in the 'Q&A' forum. The 'Discussion' forum is for matters of general discussion, not specific problems in search of a solution. The 'Water Cooler' is for non-technical discussions. You can submit a question to 'Q&A' here: http://www.techrepublic.com/forum/questions/post?tag=mantle_skin;content There are TR members who specifically seek out problems in need of a solution. Although there is some overlap between the forums, you'll find more of those members in 'Q&A' than in 'Discussions' or 'Water Cooler'. Be sure to use the voting buttons to provide your feedback. Voting a '+' does not necessarily mean that a given response contained the complete solution to your problem, but that it served to guide you toward it. This is intended to serve as an aid to those who may in the future have a problem similar to yours. If they have a ready source of reference available, perhaps won't need to repeat questions previously asked and answered. If a post did contain the solution to your problem, you can also close the question by marking the helpful post as "The Answer". . As you are not likely to have anyone see this post to a 2 year old thread. Col ;)

In case you didn't get the memo, my apologies to k/h for a miscommunication of sorts.. When the computer was retrieved from the shop, apparently there is more to the event than we knew. You have been misinformed and It would serve your interest, to update the information I've been given by the customer. The lap-top is no longer working.

Are you still working with digital images? The print I sent you to have enlarged was the only copy I had, since everthing on the sim card has vanished. In addition, I found a print of my parents I would also like to have restored. The serif program is finally up and running.

In a real first, Apple actually made the iPhone 4's battery very easy to replace. It's the only iPod/iPhone/iPad model I that I would currently suggest an average user attempt a battery replacement on.

Unfortunately, I damaged the screen and tore one of the small internal ribbon cables during this teardown. This was the first time I had ever "broken" a device during on of my cracking opens. While I could eventually get replacement parts and reassemble the device, it wouldn't be cost effective. If you want to see the iPhone 4 that I was able to reassemble in working order, check out this quick video: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/itdojo/?p=1876

I am incredibly lucky. I get to work with an amazing group of people, doing a job that's really interesting.

Unfortunately, we lost this iPod Touch on the operating room table. I've cracked open dozens of gadgets for TechRepublic and always been able to put them back together in working order. This one stumped me. I tore one of the internal ribbon cables--not really sure how. And, I accidentally insert the tip of my opening tool between the display and front panel--damaging the display.

Is it the same easy battery replacement as iPhone 4?

Impressed that you could re assemble the other ones. Try 4 again :)
