a pity there isn't a voting button for each image -- my votes go to these characters: princess leia (24) harley quinn (14) selene (29) catwoman (34) with whip phoenix (28) black canary (33) poison ivy (7) most of them don't look so much as genuine geeks, but simply paid promo-girls. I wonder, has flash (12) got the K-Y tube in her other fist ?? alex (24) may be a girl in drag, but somehow the sock-stuffing feels very wrong...

Beautiful pics of beautiful geeks. However, a great injustice to the famales of the world,-- unless sexy means ONLY the female of the species. The 49 pictures contain male geeks only in five of these.--Pratap

I certainly enjoyed all the photos. But I'd like to point out that I don't think this is "pure" geekdom. It appears that many are exhibitors. Paid performers. They might not even be geeks. They might not do it for their passion for geekdom. Their costumes are paid for by a company. The geeks pay for all their stuff, and probably make a lot of it them selves. So, while I like all the photos, I really admire the dedication of the fans that put in the effort, time and cost to show up in costume. And IMHO, the topic is slightly mis-titled.

I like the attitude that some of these gals have. The first pic of Poison Ivy with that "come-hither" gesture and the look!

OMG, there all (or almost all chicks), I'm a guy and off-course I don't mind that, but surely there must be some ladies out there who'd prefer a more even balance between men and woman? I hope they do a slide show for the ladies as well.

Robin's secret identity can now be revealed as Katie Daryl of "Deadline" on HDNet. Who knew?? Given her typical brand of wackiness, this is actually a pretty tame choice for her!

am I the only one who can see the orange-haired chick is standing in front of a poster that has the character she's supposed to be? She's a character from Cyber Force/Hunter Killer. What her name is, is another story... =)

...I present my humble respects to Catwoman Knowles on #23. Special mention to Baroness #26, who rocks that eyewear like only a bonafide bespectacled geeky chick can.

Or is the photographer typically only showing us the pictures of sexy women. And you wonder why women are not so interested in STEM careers? Attitude..

Just about EVERY manga book with schoolgirls, look like that! :D

For lack of a better guess, I'd say Selene and Emma Frost.

We're all discombobulated now because a couple pics have been INSERTED into the gallery since we posted! (vs. adding to the end) Now the count is off. Totally confusing. :p

I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be Flash, not Captain Marvel.

As someone who has attended these kinds of events... There are some pro costume wearers for the movies that are coming out, but some people watch the trailers and try to design costumes for those same movies, and try to match the skill of the pros. For the "old" stuff, established charecters, its virtually all amateurs, but some of them take it to an extreme level. I talked to a Star wars guy who spent more time on his costume than my uncle spent building a cedar strip canoe - hundreds of hours.

I'm wondering if it's partly because more women are in costume than men. Other galleries have had a higher percentage of men. Could be the photographers were amateurs, not "objective" journalist photographers, and prefer women :-)

Didn't you see the "spartans" in there? There's a shot with, and without upper-body armor. There's your balance. This list is quite fair and balanced in the same way as Fox News. Frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

You mean there's something behind her. Must be one of those optical illusions... She's a cyborg in cyberforce HK

Zelda? Really? The sword and the skimpy outfit... long black boots!! All she is missing is a flying dinosaur. It's the girl from HEAVY METAL (1981), just can't remember the name of the character right now...

I replied to one of your posts above with the explanation. It's not a good one, but it's the only one I got! :O At this point, the only ones that are still needing titles (or confirmation) are 8, 13, 22, 35, 40, 41, and the person on the right in 47.

confusing a "geek" with a "fan(atic)" Being a geek, I kinda take offense to someone being dressed up in a costume at a big convention being referred to as "geek"y. Anywho...

JamesRL
JamesRL

To a similar event in Toronto, I'd have to say that there were more women than men dressing up. The one catagory where the numbers reverse is Star Wars charecters where there are more men than women, but overall if I had to rate the number of men to women in costume, it would be 1:2. Overall though, many more men go to these events, just sans costume.

Image 8 is actually Lady Death (Zelda?) Image 7 is another Poison Ivy. (Lady Death). I think the index is off by one.

To fix the alignment to the gallery. Still seeking 8, 13, 22, 35, 40, 41, and the person on the right in 47. :)

There are definite crossovers - kinda like the kids on the "Big Bang Theory" who do particle physics by day and talk about Star Trek trivia at night. Some of them are definately "geeky" in their obsessive attention to detail. Some are simply fans.
