Creating a theme for your website with Photoshop

Adding button text

Now that the button colors are individually replaced, we can add text layers for each. (This is a PSD example only; in part two of the series, we'll get to the coding in HTML and the CSS will handle the button text.) Here, I am using the font Viner Hand ITC, Regular, 48px, and strong black. Make sure the button layer is selected and active, then select the text tool, and enter your desired text. I’ve added “Home” on the first button.

But I would have made the menu button more distinctive, a pinkish hue comes to mind. I also would desaturate the background a bit. It's a great color, texture and darkness, but draws the eye off a bit with the saturation. Maybe not only desaturate it but lighten up the foreground and saturate it a bit for greater focus on the content. Way cool design, though. I'm not that creative when it comes to the visual arts, but I am a critic, obviously. =|
