Desktop toys: USB Desk Lamp

The holiday season is approaching fast. In fact, it seems to approach faster every year. For those of you in the giving spirit around the office, it can be difficult to find that special gift for the person on the other side of the cubicle wall. It cannot be too expensive and it should reflect a certain amount of lightheartedness and fun. I mean, after all, gift giving in an office environment is really about generating smiles and feelings of goodwill with your co-workers.

With that spirit in mind, TechRepublic has acquired several inexpensive yet tasteful and useful desktop toys for review. One of these fine gadgets should appeal to even the most difficult to buy for in your office.

First up on our gift list is a USB Desk Lamp courtesy of Perpetual Kid.

I rec. something similiar a few years ago from my brother, Mike, as a Christmas or birthday present. It is a small lamp that uses the usb port but only lights up the back of the computer. It is handy with laptops when you are on the road. I do not know if on the road is good for this size though.

The article is about lighthearted (pun?) gift-giving at the office, not a Technician's aid! Show some Holiday Spirit, will ya?

I do have some holiday spirit, but as I said, this particular model 'looks stupid to me'. I didnt say it was stupid for anyone else. I might consider giving it as a joke or elephant gift, but I already got those covered this year. As far as uses, I did bring up one use which it wasn't intended for.... For Spirit, does Bah Humbug ring a bell??? that is a sort of Holiday Spirit.... Sorry, I just had to, I havent done it this year yet. My cubicle actually is already setup with a tree, a broken flat panel (20") that I took apart and put christmas lights in, and wrapped it in a garland with Candy Canes on top, and a 19" flat panel, with a recurring fireplace, complete with crackling and now and then it will even play Christmas songs. Not including the candy bowl (lined with Holly) and a couple of electronic Santa's (the Grumpy Santa (motion activated), and the Jazzy Santa (gift from last year). I think I am covered for this time of year? P.S. Everyone thinks it seems warmer when they look at the fireplace (with fire). So some have made my desk the first stop after walking into the office (to warm up) ..lol

but it does not have the 'Lamp' on top, more like a flashlight on a bendable stick. It works well if I plug it into a notebook next to a system that I am working on, plenty of light to see inside the case, and I dont need to waste a hand or shoulder/neck to hold it. That said, this particular model looks stupid to me.
