You can set your alerts to None, Banners, or Alerts that give you the opportunity to take action on your notifications.

This isn't related to the content, but rather to how TechRepublic handles image galleries. I do not usually consider myself to have a short attention span and would consider myself to have somewhat of a tolerance for poor UIs, but doing a whole page to click through each screenshot is too much. Besides being slow, after the next page loads of the next image, I have to scroll the window back to where the image is in view. An AJAX image viewer would be very nice.
I have a lot of respect for the design teams and QA at Apple. While so many integration and "cloud" features usually feel tacked-on, these are really well thought-out, easy to use, and unobtrusive. And seriously -- it's about time OSes brought in standardized notification management. This will make the Windows systray popups seem about as likable as Clippy. I'm still a PC guy.. but the more I see of OS X, the more I like it.
