News Corps. Rupert Murdoch was on hand to launch The Daily which is a daily national news publication for the iPad that will offer the features of a newspaper. The Daily will be available beginning today as an app from the Apple Apps store and will cost 99 cents weekly or $39.99 yearly. It should be an interesting test case of how many people will be willing to pay for Web content. Larry Dignan explains.

I think this is the general idea of where things are headed, whether or not this version is successful. I remember a website from the mid 90s, where you put in your preferences and it would fetch a number of newspaper columns and daily comics for you on one page. Thats the kind fo intellignce that will make this workable - if they can tailor the presentation to make it so you don't have to scroll through a hundred or more pages daily to find the 4 or 5 things you want consistently.
