I find it better used as a place holder. My grandson always powers up right where he left off even when I've had to power-cycle Windoze because he knows Ctrl-Sht-P before he walks away from the computer.

"Porn Mode" is not just for porn. I much prefer to have all traces of my tracks removed after I have logged into my bank account to check my balance or to pay a few bills. I like to have all traces unavailable to anyone except my bank while I am online with my bank, too. You are telling on yourselves when you consider "Private Browsing" to be nothing more than "Porn Mode".

Not really: I would lay it at the feet of man's sinful nature. But as populations moved to cities it became impossible to identify miscreants and tell their parents / chew them out / whup 'em / get 'em arrested / choose not to do business with them / excommunicate them... anomnity is a haven for misconduct. In like manner, I *appreciate* everyone knowing me in my small town: it's an additional layer protecting me and keeping me on the path I truly want to be on. I should think that 'porn mode' would lower one's defenses dangerously, and porn messes with one's life. A harmful thing, regardless of its private nature. And reading the note on political subversion reminds me an awful lot of "I just read the articles..." No slam intended - just remembering and glad that feature is disabled. Um, I mean on Firefox...

I constantly struggle to resist my selfish nature when it comes to sex (I don't resist my selfish nature when it comes to food so much) and I agree. They aren't so different, but the former does a lot more damage. If I keep a box of twinkies in the closet, I'm going to eat them. If I repeatedly go to the car dealership to view and sit in a Jag, I'll grow increasingly dissatisfied with my Dodge. This is why we see celebrities give up *hot* partner/spouses for someone else, often less attractive to most of us. There's no satisfying lust.

SUCKS! I tried it and every Firefox session I had open immediately shut down. I just lost a weeks worth of work!

As with anything these days nothing is really what it Seems. Interesting ADD, but there are 100's if not 1000's of reasons to use this mode besides Pr0n. One simple one is Kiosk's where they don't know enough to Secure them. Girlfriends House checking Facebook, Family's house checking Web Based Email. Fact is,this might be a nice Browser Function, but Forensically FYI. If you Crash in Firefox. Your Screwed. All the data is still there. On top of that. Never Ever Depend on Client based Browser Cleaning. I use about 15 different Machines Regularly, I dont want the systems I go to, the Management Stations,The Web Mail accessable by others, or even traces. What is Fact, Even using these Methods there is a 98% chance there are still cookies laying around for a forensic search, or someone with a couple brain cells. Dont Rely on Browser Anonymizing. Go Encrypt/Portable/Proxy out if you want to be smart about what your doing. And for gods sake, be legal about it. You have no idea the newest, last 5year federal laws to make is so bloody easy on the Pr0n side of the fence. If you by accident go to the wrong site, plan on spending about 10years in a state or federal pen. Its more important to them to catch the easy Fish than go after the Big Fish. Costs them too much money. So they ruin the lives of the small fish to make quota's. You Never Know how many Bread Crumbs you will end up leaving around. CCleaner, as a free product is a Start, but even it only does a 60% job. If you want/need to be Safe, Think Ahead. -r http://www.netwarp.com

There are plenty of reasons for anonymity. Used to be one could engage in Free Speech on political topics for example, but erosion of our Constitutional rights makes self-protection worthwhile. Solution: www.ubuntu.com Burn yourself a Linux LiveCD, and boot from it whenever you feel a need to protect yourself. There will be NO cookies saved. For good measure create your own live Linux CD with TOR and Privoxy (they say you don't need Privoxy - use it anyway, there are important reasons why). One more thing: search the web for bot code you can run from a command line, with a list of dummy "search terms" and variable dwell time on a page before extracting links and following them. I.e. a smarter webbot. Give it juicy but legal terms to start, and let it walk through sites picking up new links and loading pages. NOTHING displayed and no search terms or links saved, it's just HTTP GETs. Drives scanners and loggers crazy and gives you plausible deniability - you're just running a "bandwidth test"
