World of Warcraft fans in costume at BlizzCon 2010

I was at Blizzcon this year and last year and had a blast. The costumes this year were clearly a step above last year, you could tell there were more folks getting serious (lol yeah) about their costumes and it shows in most of these pics. For those who dont know though, the costumes/cosplay is but a small part of what Blizzcon is all about. 30,000+ people attended this year I heard.
Does everyone who wears a costume get a chance to compete or is it a pre-register thing? I see a lot of people who I think had much better costumes in the pictures not in the competition.
My girlfriend and I were discussing this while we were there since last years seemed to include many more costumes that were 'simpler' meaning, I think they 'weeded out' some costumes this year, not sure how they handled it but it DID seem different. Also, Blizz hires a few models (or whatever) to dress up and walk around the event too...so I think some of the costumes that were there and NOT in the competition may have been hired by Blizz just to walk around ie: the Blood Elf blondes and the Night Elf girls as well as the 'Zerg Kerrigan' from Starcraft. The costumes in the contest were definitely more impressive this year.
Clearly these fans put a lot of work into fabricating these costumes and accessories. The results look great--like the game characters just practically jumped out off the screen. It doesn't hurt that most of the cosplayers are drop dead gorgeous, but the workmanship of the costumes is first-rate. Great pics!
