Australian Catholic University Turns To Virtualization To Establish Sound Platform For Cloud Computing
Founded in 1991 from the merger of four Catholic tertiary institutions in eastern Australia, Australian Catholic University (ACU) is a public provider of education to students of all beliefs. Their main objective is to support a significant increase in student numbers and provide a platform for more flexible, innovative ways to deliver IT services. VMware virtualization has enabled ACU to consolidate its physical server fleet, reducing costs and improving manageability. ACU also gained a platform on which to build its cloud computing capability. This resulted in achieving a 15:1 server consolidation ratio, Reducing average server deployment from three weeks to 30 minutes and cut disaster recovery time from three to four hours, to automatic failover within 30 minutes.
