Commitment to customer service is something that makes Bangkok Bank one of the largest commercial bank in Thailand. Even though it has always focused and taken essential measures towards the right customer services, new ways to improve the existing services are always welcome. The latest requirement by the bank was that it wanted a modern, less expensive technology stack for studying customer data in a better way so that they are to get a better understanding of the needs of their customers. This was also the role of its traditional application mainframe on which the bank was running its core banking applications that involved multiple departments and required repeated verification steps. Once it turned into a problem, Bangkok Bank started to create and deploy a Business Intelligence (BI) data mart solution to support reporting and analytics using the Microsoft Application Platform. This included the Microsoft SQL Server, which is the basis of the discussion of this case study. Reports are now being generated automatically using the SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services. Multidimensional data cubes to support BI analytics were also created using the same server with Analysis Server. All in all Bangkok Bank was able to improve its overall business by using its BI data mart to provide its executives, analysts and branch managers with the reporting and analytical resources required to continually enhance the services it provides to its customers.
