Intel has played a key role in supporting the development of WiMAX; the wireless broadband technology is increasingly being deployed across the globe to deliver high-speed fixed and mobile services. The company planned to demonstrate the technology's abilities at MWC 2009 with connectivity to a range of mobile devices on its booth, and a drive test around the locality of the show. But shortly before the event, its communications partner dropped the bombshell that it was unable to deliver on its commitment to build the network in time for MWC. Intel's first call was to Motorola. The company has dedicated core WiMAX network facilities on hand at its UK Innovations Center in Swindon to support service providers in rapidly trialing WiMAX systems.
