The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) was established in March 1988 as a Scientific Society of the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and Government of India. C-DAC wanted to design a stable, high-performance, scalable, and flexible architecture for the development of National e-Governance Services Delivery Gateway (NSDG). C-DAC chose open source systems based on Red Hat's infrastructure stack, which helped them to design a high-performance, flexible, and customizable gateway.
