Executive Summary

When converting a heritage building of Europe into a luxurious hotel, Four Seasons wanted to incorporate a modern, secure networking infrastructure. The idea was to provide guests with premium services, while enhancing efficiency of the staff. The hotel required a scalable solution that will be able to offer emerging technologies and therefore lead to better business growth. The hotel required a number of IT solutions such as secure Internet access, CCTV security monitoring and video-on-demand via Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). The hotel also required an advanced Local Area Network (LAN) to support their Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solution. This required wired as well as wireless telephony. Where the company chose Alcatel as its telephony provider, they decided to go for the HP ProCurve Adaptive Network solution for a strong networking partner. They considered requirements of secure access to resources, user-isolation at access points, developed wireless security standards, and centralized management and scalability as the primary parameters to choose the networking partner. They were also looking for performance, value for money, and cost effectiveness. These requirements were answered by the HP ProCurve Adaptive Network solution that comes with highly reliable ProCurve 5400zl series switches and 30 ProCurve 5300xl intelligent edge switches. It incorporates the 75 ProCurve 2600 PWR series managed edge switches that offer Power over Ethernet (PoE). To meet the wireless LAN requirement of the hotel, 150 ProCurve Wireless Access Point 530s were deployed across the facility.
