Ceramicas Caribe wanted to incorporate new products and advance into new markets, but their existing HP hardware and JD Edwards software were no longer sufficient to support day-to-day operations. Their infrastructure was expensive to update and lacked system integration capabilities to manage financial data. Therefore, they decided to implement a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to better support business processes. With help from IBM Global Business Services, Ceramicas Caribe designed a solution to implement SAP ERP, provided by IBM Premier Business Partner SAP AG. They implemented IBM System x3650 servers to host the system, two IBM System Cluster 1600 solutions running the Linux operating system, an IBM System Storage DS3400 to store data, and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager to provide automated backups.
