Communications Firm Virtualizes Servers to Save More Than $1 Million in Two Years

Premiere Global Services is a global provider of communication technologies and is headquartered at Atlanta, Georgia. Their technologies include conferencing and collaboration solutions to help their customers improve business transactions. Not only are the solutions scalable and customizable, their success grew sky high when they began to integrate the solutions with other technologies. After a while, they began to face problems when their virtualized environment began to outgrow its capacity. They needed to buy servers with every few applications even though they invested in Microsoft enterprise solutions. Their dream of creating a standardized IT environment was successful to an extent but was hindered due to lack of enough servers. They were using VMware infrastructure at that time, but that wasn't enough. Applications were delivered seamlessly with reduced operational costs and it was less complex than traditional IT solutions. Once the expansion began they soon outgrew this virtualization environment and began to look for more cost effective methods. This case study tells the user of their journey to solve this problem and how they successfully installed Hyper-V visualization. This proved more cost effective than VMware and it had another advantage. It was a feature of Windows Sever 2008 OS with four running instances in one license. With this feature they had an increased application performance and reliability level with all the geographical barriers cut down. New levels of efficiency were achieved with successful management of both physical and virtual environments.
