Convergent Computing (CCO) is a global IT consulting firm and a majority the employees are mobile technology consultants who travel around the world and need easy access to data. CCO needed to protect their knowledge capital and customer information. There were significant costs being incurred providing long-distance phone support. To improve service, CCO wanted to facilitate collaboration between the consultants and their customers. So they deployed a suite of online communications and collaboration services that are a part of Microsoft Online Services. It offered interoperable services that include desktop and mobile e-mail, shared calendars and contacts, instant messaging and presence, shared workspaces, and live audio-visual Web-conferencing applications. The company added Microsoft Forefront Online Protection for Exchange to help safeguard its online messaging environment from SPAM and malware. With this CCO gained better control over acquiring and paying for its IT solutions. They could tailor a hybrid deployment of locally deployed servers for office-based staff and cost-effective hosted services for the mobile consultants. This made it easy to mix and match the kinds of IT services CCO offers to different users: in-house staff, consultants, and customers. The hybrid approach has freed CCO consultants from a lot of network administration. CCO now has a reliable suite of hosted communication services. They now have reduced IT costs and are providing better customer service.
