Seven-Eleven Japan operates the largest chain of convenience stores in Japan. With its North American subsidiary 7-Eleven, the company operates or franchises approximately 32,300 stores worldwide. The Seven-Eleven Japan sales staff is highly mobile, often working outside of the main office. The company wanted to help these remote employees work more productively, while keeping security high and IT costs low. Seven-Eleven Japan decided to standardize its mobile computing environment on the Windows Vista operating system to achieve a highly secure infrastructure that also provides employees with more flexibility. Technology partner Nomura Research Institute is helping the company deploy the new software to 5,000 PCs, most of which are portable computers.
