NetApp uses Cisco Nexus 7000 to increase solution availability and simplify infrastructure requirements. NetApp creates innovative storage and data management solutions that help customers accelerate business breakthroughs and achieve outstanding cost efficiency. The NetApp Dynamic Data Center Lab provides an environment in which utility computing approaches can be tested in real-world environments. One of the primary advantages of the NetApp Dynamic Data Center Lab is its virtualized and highly customizable nature, which allows a great deal of flexibility yet still segments one customer's activities from another customer. A NetApp Dynamic Data Center Lab customer can have access to, configure and modify its own environments without affecting other environments within the lab. NetApp selected the Cisco Nexus 7000 switch to underpin this critical environment for a number of reasons. With the broader use of server virtualization, the shift to rack-optimized and blade servers, and increasing complexity of workloads, 10 GbE is becoming the recognized server access standard, especially in the kind of network storage solutions that NetApp proposes. In light of this, NetApp wanted a switch that was optimized for 10 GbE. The density and the virtualization capabilities of the Cisco Nexus 7000 provide NetApp with a networking solution that is flexible and agile. The benefits of the new system are multifaceted and thus have been easily welcomed as this case study explains it.
