When Delta Air Lines first began using rudimentary SOA software tools it quickly realized benefits, including a 25% re-use rate for services. Delta moved to web services; this triggered a decision to migrate to a more sophisticated approach to SOA as well. The airline selected TIBCO ActiveMatrix as its SOA platform, and HP SOA Systinet for its SOA governance and registry solution. Although Delta Air Lines was confident in the capabilities of the software it purchased, it also recognized that it needed more than software. So Delta decided to bring HP professional consulting on-site to set up a SOA Center of Excellence.
