Before global IT services leader HP brings its innovative offerings to the marketplace, these solutions undergo rigorous testing in a simulated production environment known as Enterprise Labs - a non-production facility at HP with three regional facilities supporting the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. HP needed to free lab floor space and reduce power and cooling expenses. Enterprise Labs identified 3,100 servers to consolidate and virtualize in the lab environment. This involved evaluating server types, application types and performance levels to determine the best candidates. Enterprise Labs virtualized 500 physical servers using VMware and Sun Solaris technologies at an aggressive rate of 15 servers per week.
