Omnitel, Lithuania's largest mobile operator wanted to offer SMS to its prepaid customers, conscious of its rising popularity. However, Omnitel was also aware of the problems that some operators had in running separate SMS and voice prepaid systems. Therefore, a key critera for the prepaid system was that it could provide both voice and SMS billing on a real-time basis. Having examined its options, Omnitel chose to base its prepaid offering on the Intervoice platform. Intervoice was the only solution that offered a prepaid platform with an integrated SMS-C, putting Intervoice about 12 months ahead of the competition.
