Gensler: Riverbed Appliances Permit Global Collaboration Over a WAN and Reduce Data Storage Costs
Gensler is comprised of more than 2,900 professionals working in 32 locations worldwide. In the past, collaboration between architects in different offices required the use of overnight mail because it took too long to send large design files over the company's WAN. The data deduplication performed by the Steelhead appliances improved the company's daily backup process by increasing bandwidth capacity and by greatly reducing (via deduplication) the amount of data that travels from individual offices over the WAN to the company's data center. The Steelhead solution eliminated the need for 70 tapes per month, per office, to archive the more than 4 terabytes of data it needed to store each year.
