With the growth in business needs, one of the world's largest telecommunications company adopted a cost-efficient solution in order to launch a compact infrastructure footpoint for its data center. The organization made use of InfiniBand grid computing proof of concept (PoC) to install Database-as-a-Service for mission critical Oracle installations in high-end transactional situations. This new solution discusses in the case study helped in reducing the hardware achievement and database transaction costs for the organization. The case study talks about high bandwidth, low latency InfiniBand network for connecting grid and storage systems. The PoC system talked about in this paper was installed by the company to identify solutions to increase efficiency and reduce data center costs. Based on blade server technology, this high performance computing (HPC) grid solution provides improved performance, availability and flexibility with low rate of power usage. It has enabled the organization to put together mission-critical business intelligence and database applications on industry standard blade servers and storage systems with an ultra-low latency interlocked structure. This paper states InfiniBand to be the key enabler to the high performance, scalable grid computing solutions that provide high bandwidth over a single connection and low latency. The HPS grid computing solution discussed in this report has enabled the company to provide its customers with cost-effective, high-density solution.
