In 2006, Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) - a nationally recognized hospital based in Minneapolis, Minnesota - struggled with the financial feasibility of its hosted Lotus Notes environment. At U.S.$18 per mailbox per month, the e-mail system was extremely expensive, thus restricting the number of employees who could have an account. In addition, the system created numerous issues with productivity, system administration, and security - including viruses. To address these issues, the hospital deployed Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and other software in the Microsoft Enterprise Client Access License Suite including Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
