Hungarian Telecom Supports Mobile Workers, Energy Efficiency With Operating System Upgrade
Telenor Hungary provides mobile telecommunications and Internet service throughout the country. Although Telenor was satisfied with the Windows XP Professional client operating system for several years, the telecom recently concluded that its client computer infrastructure had become too heterogeneous, ran applications too slowly, and was expensive to manage. To address these issues, Telenor became the first company in Hungary to deploy Windows 7 Enterprise. Automated deployment is proceeding quickly and smoothly, taking half the time of previous comparable projects, and IT support requirements are low. Employees - particularly mobile workers - find that Windows 7 is easy to use even without training. It also cuts computer power consumption by 20 percent and extends battery life, which lowers the company's costs and complements environmental awareness policies.
