India's First Planned Hill City Deploys Portal Solution to Empower Employees; Increases Collaboration and Efficiency

Executive Summary

Lavasa is the first hill city being developed by HCC and the city infrastructure being put into place is expected to set a new benchmark in planning, construction and service delivery for India. With this project, Lavasa had to manually take care of a lot of information that was not easy to locate and therefore sustaining the information was expensive. Employees at Lavasa required faster access to information along with better ways in which they could achieve team collaboration. To meet these issues along planning of the hill city, Lavasa launched an intranet based on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. This was done with the support of Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Wipro so that Lavasa employees are able to access all required information at a single, central location. Lavasa did not have an application to manage internal workflow, employee self service, and internal communications. There were also problems of manual entering and merging of data faced by employees. Because of the poor integration within the organization, there was shortage of updated real time information that could enhance productivity. Lavasa therefore felt the need for an integrated intranet portal solution that could help get rid of manual processes, increase collaboration, provide information faster, and improve data management. As a result, Lavasa decided to engage a Web-based portal solution with the Microsoft platform and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
