Isle of Man: Government Reduces IT Costs While Enhancing Security With Reliable Operating System
Situated in the British Isles, the Isle of Man is a British Crown Dependency with more than 80,000 residents. Despite its small size, the Information Systems (IS) Division for the Isle of Man maintains an impressive IT environment that incorporates the latest advances in technology. As part of its normal course of business, the IS Division strives to keep its operating systems and service packs up-to-date. To align with this mission, the Isle of Man decided to upgrade to the Windows 7 Enterprise operating system across its jurisdiction to all government employees. As a result of upgrading, the IS Division reduced IT costs associated with the upgrade, which will compound in the future; reduced power consumptions, for annual savings of 64,000 (U.S.$101,000); and improved remote access in a security-enhanced environment.
