Executive Summary

King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) is Thailand's leading technical university. Unified Communication (UC) which breaks down the barriers between email, voice, video, conferencing, instant messaging and presence applications, was recognized by university planners as an important complement to traditional top-down e-learning delivery methods. Application of these capabilities across the university's campuses would foster productive collaboration between people regardless of geographical location. KMITL thus set out to identify and introduce a UC solution with a strong track record of providing appropriate, relevant online tools that empower people to work together better. To begin with, KMITL's Faculty of Information Technology (IT) evaluated available solutions and quickly concluded that the UC solution from the Nortel-Microsoft Innovative Communications Alliance (ICA) offered the industry's best unified communications platform.
